The Chapel of Senhora de Rocha, on the promontory with the same name, was a place of worship for Visigoths and Muslims, later for the Christians also, and the remains of a fortress going back to those ages.
The location in a dominant position on the coast offered exceptional conditions to defend the populations from the frequent attacks of corsairs.
The earthquake of 1755 almost completely destroyed it, having only spared the 16th century chapel.
A place to visit not only for its history but also for its spectacular architecture and views.
